https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.47135

Background and Objective: Religiosity is one of the key psychosocial factors that can be related to individuals’ general health. General health is a key component of overall human well-being, playing a significant role in both quality of life and individual as well as social functioning. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between religiosity and general health among students at Shahed University in Tehran, to determine which aspects of general health are correlated with levels of religiosity and how this relationship manifests within the student population.

Methods: This study employed a descriptive-correlational design, and the statistical population consisted of all students enrolled in Shahed University. A sample of 360 students was selected using stratified random sampling. Religiosity was measured using Khodayari-Fard’s Religiosity Questionnaire, and general health was assessed using the GHQ-28 (General Health Questionnaire). Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test. In the present study, all ethical considerations were observed and the authors reported no conflicts of interest.

Results: Statistical analysis revealed significant negative correlations between religiosity and somatic symptoms (r=-0.507), anxiety and sleep disorders (r=-0.448), social dysfunction (r=-0.462), and depression (r=-0.435). These findings indicate that higher levels of religiosity are associated with lower levels of physical problems, anxiety, social dysfunction, and depression. The overall correlation between religiosity and general health disorder symptoms was also significant and negative (r=-0.566), suggesting that increased religiosity is linked with decreased general health disorder symptoms among students. In other words, students with higher religiosity levels are less likely to experience psychological and functional impairments. This negative correlation highlights the protective role of religiosity in enhancing mental well-being and reducing health-related issues in this population.

Conclusion: Overall, the findings suggest that religiosity and adherence to religious principles can play an effective role in promoting general health among university students.

Journal of Pizhūhish dar dīn va Salāmat (i.e., Research on Religion & Health), Vol. 12 No. 1 (2026), 24 May 2026, Page 43-61
https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.48162

Background and Objective: The formation of human behavior and beliefs is rooted in the totality of experiences an individual accumulates throughout life. This process remains progressive until adulthood, passing through critical stages before personality becomes firmly established. Considering the Quranic concept of growth and the foundations of the Quranic growth system, this article examines the influence of parental actions on shaping children's behaviors. It demonstrates how the tayyib (wholesome) acts of parents can be internalized in a child's mind, fostering healthy and balanced conduct. Drawing upon the Quranic discourse structure, the fi’l (action) component was selected among the constituent elements of speech to formulate an educational model.

Methods: This qualitative research employed, in its first phase, description, analysis, and inference, along with a thorough review of sources within the Quranic growth system, to extract indicators of growth and developmental deficits related to the fi’l component in the learning process. In the second phase, these indicators were reviewed and validated using the Elite Panel method—a structured framework for collecting and confirming qualitative data from experts in specific fields, which helps reduce ambiguities in complex issues. In the present study, all ethical considerations were observed, and the authors reported no conflicts of interest.

Results: The study extracted indicators of child growth and developmental deficits concerning the fi’l component and proposed a three‑stage educational model. The first stage involves foundational modeling, aimed at forming initial mental representations of tayyib acts. The second stage is structuralizing Independence, facilitating the transformation of internalized patterns into spontaneous behaviors. The third stage entails systematic internalization to solidify an internal value system and self‑regulatory behaviors.

Conclusion: Studying the fi’l component based on the Quranic discourse structure functions not merely as a linguistic tool but as an educational and pedagogical element. Ultimately, it can serve as a basis for proposing a model to foster healthy child development, thereby helping to prevent the widespread occurrence of developmental deficiencies.

Journal of Pizhūhish dar dīn va Salāmat (i.e., Research on Religion & Health), Vol. 12 No. 1 (2026), 24 May 2026, Page 62-79
https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.47541

Background and Objective: Attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common childhood disorders and can negatively affect children’s academic, behavioral, and emotional functioning. Alongside conventional treatments, non‑pharmacological and health‑oriented lifestyle approaches may play an effective complementary role in reducing symptoms and promoting mental health. Despite the importance of this issue, comprehensive and evidence‑based intervention packages for children with attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder remain limited. Therefore, the present study aimed to design a health‑oriented lifestyle package for children with attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder based on qualitative needs analysis through a systematic review of the scientific literature.

Methods: This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive–analytical approach. In the first stage, data were extracted and qualitatively analyzed through a systematic review of articles related to attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), health‑oriented lifestyle, and children’s needs assessment. Scientific sources were searched on Magiran, Scientific Information Database of the Academic Center for Education, Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed databases. After identifying the key themes related to children’s needs, essential components required for designing the package were extracted. Subsequently, the health‑oriented lifestyle package was developed, and its content validity was reviewed and confirmed by experts in child psychology and traditional medicine. In the present study, all ethical considerations were observed, and no conflicts of interest were reported by the authors.

Results: The findings indicated that the main needs of children with ADHD within a health‑oriented lifestyle framework include climate conditions, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, elimination of bodily waste, and management of negative emotions. Accordingly, the package components included exposure to nature, an appropriate dietary plan, regular physical activity, improvement of sleep quality, and supportive interventions for managing constipation, anxiety, and low mood.

Conclusion: The results suggest that qualitative needs analysis can provide an appropriate foundation for designing a comprehensive health‑oriented lifestyle package for children with ADHD and may be used as a complementary approach alongside conventional treatments.

Journal of Pizhūhish dar dīn va Salāmat (i.e., Research on Religion & Health), Vol. 12 No. 1 (2026), 24 May 2026, Page 80-95
https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.47887

Background and Objective: Infertility has increased significantly in recent years, so much so that the World Health Organization has classified it as one of the three health problems in 2021. People show different reactions when faced with the problem of infertility. Sometimes they choose to surrender to the problem, while others end treatment, and sometimes they start whining and lamenting. In some cases, they cope with the problem by resorting to prayer and trust. For this reason, the purpose of the present study is to extract the spiritual and non-spiritual strategies of infertile people during assisted reproductive treatment.

Methods: In the present qualitative study, interviewees were selected through online calls and by visiting some infertility treatment centers (Mam Center, Ibn Sina, Royan, Infertility Clinic of Erfan and Niayesh Hospital) in Tehran. 32 infertile individuals (10 men and 22 women) who had experienced at least one assisted reproductive treatment were subjected to semi-structured interviews until data saturation. The interviews were based on the use of strategies used during and after assisted reproductive treatment. Data analysis was performed using Strauss and Corbin’s method. In the present study, all ethical considerations were observed and the authors reported no conflicts of interest.

Results: The results of data analysis led to extraction of a selected code of spirituality-based strategies, and 4 axial codes including ineffective coping styles (surrender, avoidance, emotional, and superstitious decisions), occupational-educational (adaptability in the job, promotion of career knowledge, educational advancement), improvement of couple relationship (agreement, companionship, and problem solving), and personal excellence (connection to the true source, insight enhancement, promotion of moral virtues, self-care, and elimination of negative characteristics). 16 open codes were also extracted.

Conclusion: According to the results of this study on the strategies of infertile individuals during assisted reproductive treatment, it seems that some of the strategies of the individuals were efficient and some were ineffective, which is why there is a need for problem-solving and decision-making training during the treatment process. As the results of this study show, adopting spiritual strategies and connecting to the source of existence facilitates the tortuous path of treatment.

Journal of Pizhūhish dar dīn va Salāmat (i.e., Research on Religion & Health), Vol. 12 No. 1 (2026), 24 May 2026, Page 96-109
https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.48487

Background and Objective: Social health is one of the key dimensions of human health that plays an important role in the quality of social life. Empowerment, as one of the influential factors, can promote social health. This study aims to present an empowerment model to promote social health and its relationship with life expectancy of Afghan women living in Iran.

Methods: This study uses a qualitative research method of grounded theory drawing on semi-structured in-depth interviews with 20 Afghan women living in Iran in 2016-2021, who were empowered and hopeful for life. The interviews were conducted using coding on the text. All ethical considerations were observed in this study and the authors do not report any conflicts of interest.

Results: The results revealed 100 general selected codes including causal conditions (healthy communication with society, ability to interact effectively with society, satisfaction with interpersonal relationships, playing a role in society), intervention conditions (lack of support from society, superstitions, secrecy, lack of problem-solving skills), central category (social health as a guarantee of life expectancy), strategies (self-confidence in Afghan women, strengthening adaptation strategies, rational beliefs, mutual understanding, independence in carrying out activities in society, hope) and outcome (life expectancy of Afghan women).

Conclusion: The findings indicate that promoting the social health of Afghan women in their empowerment model in Iran is dependent on the realization of such factors and components as healthy communication with society, ability to interact effectively with other people and the social environment, satisfaction with interpersonal relationships, playing a role, and acceptance in society. Therefore, sociologists and social workers, experts in the field of women's studies, and social policy makers are advised to take steps towards building society and family by investing in the social health of citizens, especially women.

Journal of Pizhūhish dar dīn va Salāmat (i.e., Research on Religion & Health), Vol. 12 No. 1 (2026), 24 May 2026, Page 110-122
https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.45278

Background and Objective: One of the most emphasized issues in Islamic jurisprudence is the matter of consuming halal and pure food, particularly adherence to the rules regarding the use of animals. From a jurisprudential perspective, the most crucial condition for utilizing products such as meat and hides from permissible animals that have not been subjected to incidental prohibitions is their proper ritual slaughter (tazkiyah). The primary question of this research is: What effects does the condition of tazkiyah entail, and to what extent, based on scientific findings, has it been established to ensure health and prevent potential harm to humans?

Methods: In this article, which is conducted using a descriptive-analytical approach, after presenting the religious rulings of tazkiyah, the wisdom and benefits of enacting these rulings are examined from a scientific perspective. The authors reported no conflicts of interest. The authors reported no conflict of interest regarding this study.

Results: Based on the findings, the most important effects of the Islamic method of slaughtering livestock are: complete blood drainage from the animal, reduction of pain and stress, mental well-being and psychological health, and strengthening the Islamic market.

Conclusion: Based on the examination of various jurisprudential and scientific effects, it can be stated that some of the rules of ritual slaughter (tazkiyah) are legislated to enhance the quality of meat, prevent physical harm, and promote human health. Others are intended to mitigate negative social, economic, ethical, and psychological impacts. In this context, understanding the wisdom behind some of the tazkiyah rules is not limited to laboratory and scientific tools.

Jurisdictional Analysis of the Physical Rights of the Fetus in Ceremonial Delivery

Azam Nazari, Hossein Saberi, Hamid Masjed-Saraei

Journal of Pizhūhish dar dīn va Salāmat (i.e., Research on Religion & Health), Vol. 12 No. 1 (2026), 24 May 2026, Page 123-136
https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.45841

Background and Objective: Sometimes, parents wish to register the birth of their child on a specific date, leading them to request early delivery without a valid medical reason. From a medical perspective, intervening in the timing of delivery poses risks and complications for the fetus. This raises the question of whether it is justifiable to endanger the life and health of the fetus for the sake of a ceremonial delivery.

Methods: This research is descriptive and analytical. In this research, verses of the Qur’an and narrations were utilized for the extraction and compilation of the material. The authors of the article reported no conflict of interest.

Results: Changing the delivery date to coincide with specific occasions can severely jeopardize the "right to life" and "right to health" of the fetus, resulting in serious health consequences.

Conclusion: Scientific studies and investigations indicate that the deliberate alteration of the delivery date can pose serious and potential risks to the health and life of the fetus. Parents do not have the right to jeopardize the physical well-being of the fetus by choosing the timing of birth arbitrarily. Therefore, changing the delivery date to coincide with specific occasions is not consistent with medical and jurisprudential principles and is considered impermissible.

Masoumeh Simbar, Zahra Kiani

Journal of Pizhūhish dar dīn va Salāmat (i.e., Research on Religion & Health), Vol. 12 No. 1 (2026), 24 May 2026, Page 137-156
https://doi.org/10.22037/jrrh.v12i1.47210

Background and Objective: Considering that population growth and childbearing in a religious lifestyle require a suitable model, and the most complete model for us in this regard is the Holy Quran. This study was conducted with the aim of matching the verses of the Holy Quran in the field of population and childbearing with the current knowledge of reproductive health in the form of a review study.

Methods: This review study was conducted by searching the Holy Quran and reputable databases in the country (Religious Lecture Database, Islamic Encyclopedia, Hawza Information Database, Quran and Lineage Foundation, Pars Quran, Quran City, Lessons from the Quran, Quran Online Encyclopedia, etc.). The search was conducted with the Persian and Arabic keywords Quran, Surah, Verse, Population, Childbirth, Marriage, Fetal Development, Abortion, Pregnancy, Childbirth, Postpartum, Breastfeeding, and Intercourse by two independent researchers without time limit until 4 November 2024. The names of the verses, verse numbers, Arabic and Persian texts of the verses, and the message of the verses were examined independently by two researchers, and thematic classification was performed based on the messages of the verses in the field of population and childbearing. The authors reported no conflicts of interest regarding this research.

Results: Thematic classification of the verses of the related surahs was performed in six areas: marriage, childbearing, preparation before intercourse and fertilization, stages of fetal development, breastfeeding, and abortion. Some verses were placed in more than one area due to the messages of the verse. The most frequent verses were in the field of marriage and childbearing.

Conclusion: The verses of the Quran pay great attention to population and childbearing. All the matters mentioned in the Quran in the field of population and childbearing have been proven by modern science in the field of reproductive health, which indicates the comprehensiveness and completeness of the Quran and also the absolute knowledge of God.

Background and Objective: Spiritual health is considered a fundamental component of comprehensive health. Spiritual health is not merely a subjective phenomenon, and its realization requires the manifestation of correct behaviors. The aim of this research was to explain “looking at a woman at the point of engagement” as a foundational behavior in establishing the spiritual health of the individual and society, and also to examine its theoretical foundations from the Imami viewpoint. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the foundation of spiritual health to Islamic injunctions was also explored.

Methods: This research library-bsed and employs a descriptive-analytical method. In this study, an attempt is made to examine the issue of “looking at a woman during the engagement process” using the laws and teachings of Islamic jurisprudence. This issue is often a unique religious experience and a concern for many religious individuals in the realm of spiritual health. Additionally, Noor software was utilized to search for the opinions of jurisprudential scholars. The authors reported no conflicts of interest.

Results: Spiritual health, with a comprehensive definition encompassing the four dimensions of transpersonal, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and extrapersonal connections, and from an Islamic perspective, necessitates adherence to jurisprudential rulings. Engagement is the starting point for establishing a family foundation and a factor in strengthening spiritual health, holding particular sensitivity. All jurists agree that the rulings regarding looking at a woman during the engagement period differ from looking at a non-related woman, and some gazes that are forbidden under ordinary conditions are considered permissible under these circumstances; the existing disagreement is solely within the scope of this ruling. Narrations related to looking at a woman who is being proposed to have been categorized into six thematic groups, with one group containing general permissibility and another group containing specific restrictions. In this research, conflicts between these narrations were examined and resolved, and ultimately, the correct religious behavior regarding looking at a woman who is being proposed to within the framework of spiritual health was elucidated.

Conclusion: Achieving the path of growth and happiness necessitates redefinition and implementation of Islam’s practical programs in the domain of spiritual health. This requires planning for the theoretical foundations of health, which is based on the correct understanding and application of these foundations in daily life to achieve spiritual happiness and well-being. The Islamic perspective on this issue offers a balanced approach, and its solution is to facilitate the path to spiritual happiness.
