Abstract

Background and Objective: Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women and has a significant impact on cancer-related mortality in this population. Studying the role of health and spiritual meditation in strengthening the immune system and combating breast cancer is of particular importance. This review study aims to consolidate existing evidence and identify the mechanisms through which spiritual meditation influences the immune system in breast cancer. By addressing scientific gaps, its findings may contribute to the development of evidence-based spiritual interventions and improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients.

Methods: This study is a structured review conducted using keywords such as spiritual meditation, immune system, breast cancer, and spirituality for Persian texts. For English texts, the keywords Spiritual meditation, Immune system, Breast cancer, and Spirituality were utilized. Searches were performed on reputable scientific databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and Magiran, to identify and analyze relevant articles on these topics. The authors of the article reported no conflict of interest.

Results: Initially, 81 articles were identified, out of which 23 met the inclusion criteria. The reviewed studies indicate that religious activities can influence the management of diseases such as breast cancer by reducing stress, improving mental health, enhancing spirituality, and boosting the immune system function.

Conclusion: Studies indicate that spiritual interventions can play a significant role in strengthening the immune system of cancer patients, particularly those with breast cancer. This approach aids in better cancer management and enhances patients' quality of life by improving immune responses and disease control. Moreover, individuals with deep spiritual and religious beliefs tend to cope more effectively with the challenges of illness. Psychological resilience, a sense of meaning, and hope can also have an effective role in improving their ability to adapt to the conditions of their disease.
