Abstract

Background and Objective: Family, as the most fundamental social institution, plays a crucial role in shaping individuals' personalities and their psychological and social well-being. Religious and existential health within families, by strengthening interpersonal relationships, enhancing family cohesion, and promoting resilience, contributes significantly to individuals' capacity to cope with life’s challenges and adversities. This is particularly important in families exposed to greater occupational and social pressures, such as those of physicians and office employees. The aim of this study was to model the characteristics of religious and existential health in specialist doctors and employees in Tehran.

Methods: The research method is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive survey-based in terms of data collection. The statistical population of the study included specialist doctors and employees in Tehran. Due to the unavailability of all community members, they were selected by random sampling according to Morgan's table, and they answered the Paloutzian and Ellison’s (1982) Spiritual Health Questionnaire manually. In the present study, all ethical considerations were observed and the authors reported no conflict of interests.

Results: The results of the pairwise comparison, to investigate the difference in spiritual health scores among doctors and employees, showed a significant difference between the average religious health scores of doctors and employees. The results showed that the level of religious health of employees was higher than that of doctors. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between the average existential health and the existential health was higher in the doctors compared to the employees.

Conclusion: It can be concluded that as religious well-being increases, existential well-being is also positively affected. This relationship may stem from the positive effects of religiosity on existential feelings, which can be influenced by the high levels of job stress and responsibilities faced by physicians-factors that potentially impact their mental and spiritual health.
