Abstract
Background and Objective: Schools are the main educational institutions that play a key role in developing human resources and shaping the social and economic future of countries. In this context, the effective performance of teachers is of particular importance, and religious spirituality can influence teachers' behaviors and performance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of religious spirituality on teachers' self-efficacy in Islamic education schools in Mashhad.
Methods: This research is a quantitative research type and its method is descriptive-correlational. This study involved 135 teachers from Islamic knowledge schools in Mashhad (2023–2024), selected through convenience sampling. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software version 27. Instruments included the Religious Spirituality Questionnaire (Milliman et al., 2003), assessing meaning, connection, and value alignment, and the Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (Schunk et al., 2001), measuring engagement, instructional strategies, and classroom management. Both instruments demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability. In the present study, all ethical considerations were observed and the authors reported no conflict of interests.
Results: The results of the study revealed high mean scores for religious spirituality among teachers, and a significant positive correlation between religious spirituality and teachers' self-efficacy. Statistical analyses revealed that as the level of religious spirituality increased, teachers' self-efficacy also significantly improved. In other words, religious spirituality serves as a facilitating factor that can contribute to fostering self-efficacy and confidence in teachers.
Conclusion: The findings of this research suggest that enhancing religious spirituality can help improve teachers' professional performance and, consequently, have a positive impact on students' learning outcomes. It is recommended that educational policymakers and school administrators seek strategies to promote religious spirituality in educational settings. This initiative could lead to improved educational quality and a more positive classroom atmoshere.
