Abstract
Background and Objective: Female heads of households are more vulnerable to personal and social harms than other women, which can affect on their health and sense of happiness. Accordingly, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of self-efficacy and happiness on the physical and mental health of female heads of households under the protection of Abadan Behzisti Administration.
Methods: The research was descriptive and correlational. The sample population consisted of all female heads of households under the protection of Abadan Behzisti Administration, 195 of whom were selected by available sampling method. Data collection instruments included a demographic and demographic questionnaire, and self-efficacy, quality of life, and happiness questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient and regression. In this study, all ethical considerations have been observed and no conflict of interest was reported by the authors.
Results: The mean age of participants was 42.19±7.97. The most important reason for being heads of households was having a sick and disabled spouse (%63.9, 82). Most women were poorly educated (%57.4, 112). The majority of women evaluated their self-efficacy (%75.9, 148) and their sense of happiness (%42.6, 83). Women had a moderate level of physical health and a weak level of mental health. Based on the results of multiple regression analysis, self-efficacy and happiness variables were good predictors of mental and physical health (P=0/000). Education level was the most important predictor of and the most effective factor influencing physical health in women (P=0/004).
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that effective interventions can promote self-efficacy and happiness beliefs, which leads to increased physical and mental health in women.
