Abstract

Background and Objective: Today, with the increasing pressures of life and due to that psychological stress, the mental toughness of students has been compromised. In this regard, we can mention spiritual intelligence and health literacy, which affect health. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the role of spiritual intelligence and health literacy in predicting the mental toughness among university students.

Methods: The present study was descriptive-correlational. The research population included all postgraduate students of the Faculty of Psychology of Educational Sciences, Islamic Azad University of Roudehen in the academic year 2024-2025, of which 220 people were selected by convenient sampling method based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data collection tools included the questionnaires of spiritual intelligence by Farhoosh et al., health literacy by Montazeri et al., and psychological strength by Claf et al. In data analysis, mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation and multivariate regression were used using SPSS version 22 software.

Results: The findings showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between spiritual intelligence (r = 0.595) and health literacy (r = 0.660) and mental toughness (P<0.01). Also, spiritual intelligence and health literacy explain 46% of the variance in students' psychological resilience.

Conclusion: The results of the study emphasize the importance of spiritual intelligence and health literacy as influential variables in predicting students' mental toughness; therefore, in self-care and health-oriented programs, issues such as spiritual intelligence and health literacy should be considered.
