Abstract

Background and Objective: Considering that population growth and childbearing in a religious lifestyle require a suitable model, and the most complete model for us in this regard is the Holy Quran. This study was conducted with the aim of matching the verses of the Holy Quran in the field of population and childbearing with the current knowledge of reproductive health in the form of a review study.

Methods: This review study was conducted by searching the Holy Quran and reputable databases in the country (Religious Lecture Database, Islamic Encyclopedia, Hawza Information Database, Quran and Lineage Foundation, Pars Quran, Quran City, Lessons from the Quran, Quran Online Encyclopedia, etc.). The search was conducted with the Persian and Arabic keywords Quran, Surah, Verse, Population, Childbirth, Marriage, Fetal Development, Abortion, Pregnancy, Childbirth, Postpartum, Breastfeeding, and Intercourse by two independent researchers without time limit until 4 November 2024. The names of the verses, verse numbers, Arabic and Persian texts of the verses, and the message of the verses were examined independently by two researchers, and thematic classification was performed based on the messages of the verses in the field of population and childbearing. The authors reported no conflicts of interest regarding this research.

Results: Thematic classification of the verses of the related surahs was performed in six areas: marriage, childbearing, preparation before intercourse and fertilization, stages of fetal development, breastfeeding, and abortion. Some verses were placed in more than one area due to the messages of the verse. The most frequent verses were in the field of marriage and childbearing.

Conclusion: The verses of the Quran pay great attention to population and childbearing. All the matters mentioned in the Quran in the field of population and childbearing have been proven by modern science in the field of reproductive health, which indicates the comprehensiveness and completeness of the Quran and also the absolute knowledge of God.
