Abstract
Background and Aim: The impact of ethics on workplace spirituality has been the focus of numerous studies. Attention to ethical and value-based concepts -particularly Islamic work ethics- plays a significant role in understanding individuals’ workplace spirituality. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to examine the effect of the organizational ethical climate on workplace spirituality, with the mediating role of Islamic work ethics and work values, among the employees of the Khorasan Razavi Regional Water Company.
Methods: This study employed a correlational research design using structural equation modeling (SEM). The statistical population consisted of all 184 employees of the Khorasan Razavi Regional Water Company, out of which 125 individuals were selected as the research sample using Cochran’s formula and a random sampling method. Data were collected using four questionnaires: the Workplace Spirituality Questionnaire (Milliman et al., 2003), the Ethical Climate Perception Questionnaire (Hunt et al., 1989), the Work Values Questionnaire (Chang et al., 2013), and the Islamic Work Ethics Questionnaire (Bin Salahudin, 2016). Data analysis was conducted using Smart PLS 3 software and structural equation modeling.
Ethical Considerations: The ethical considerations in the preparation of this article, including preservation of the authenticity of the text, honesty, trustworthiness, informed consent, and transparency, have been observed.
Results: The research findings indicated that the perception of the ethical context has a significant effect on workplace spirituality, work values, and Islamic work ethics, with path coefficients of 0.552, 0.536, and 0.525, respectively. The mediating role of the variables Islamic work ethics and work values was also confirmed.
Conclusion: Perception of the ethical context, Islamic work ethics, and work values contribute to workplace spirituality. This highlights the need for managers to place special emphasis on ethical values within the organization.
