Open Access Policy

The Bioethics Journal is committed to the broad dissemination of scholarly knowledge and follows an Open Access publishing model. All articles are made freely and immediately available online upon publication, without subscription or access charges for readers. This policy is consistent with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative, which promotes free online access to scholarly literature and lawful reuse without financial or technical barriers. budapestopenaccessinitiative.org

Open Access Licence

Articles published in the Bioethics Journal are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Under this licence, users may read, download, copy, share, redistribute, translate, adapt, and build upon the published material for non-commercial purposes, provided that:

  1. appropriate credit is given to the author(s) and the original source;
  2. any modifications, translations, or adaptations are clearly indicated;
  3. the material is not used for commercial purposes; and
  4. no additional legal or technological restrictions are imposed that would prevent others from exercising the rights granted by the licence.

These conditions correspond to the official terms of the CC BY-NC 4.0 licence. Creative Commons

Immediate Access

Published articles are made openly available without an embargo period. Immediate availability is intended to facilitate the rapid dissemination of knowledge and enhance access for researchers, students, professionals, policymakers, and the wider public.

Self-Archiving and Scholarly Sharing

Subject to the terms of the CC BY-NC 4.0 licence, authors may deposit the published version of their articles for non-commercial purposes in personal websites, institutional or subject repositories, and other legitimate scholarly platforms, provided that the original publication is properly cited and, where possible, linked to the version of record on the Journal’s website. Clear self-archiving and licensing policies are also consistent with DOAJ principles of transparency in open-access publishing. Directory of Open Access Journals

Copyright and Attribution

Application of a Creative Commons licence does not eliminate the obligation to properly acknowledge authorship. Users must provide appropriate attribution, identify the original source, and indicate whether any changes have been made. Reuse must not imply endorsement by the authors or the Journal. Creative Commons

The copyright status and applicable licence should be clearly identified on the article webpage and in the full text of published articles. This approach is consistent with both ICMJE recommendations and DOAJ transparency standards. ICMJE

Reader Access and Publication Charges

Access to the full text of all published articles is free of charge to readers. The Journal’s Open Access policy is distinct from any policy concerning article processing or publication fees. Any such charges, if applicable, should be disclosed separately and transparently under the Journal’s Article Processing Charges / Fee Policy. Directory of Open Access Journals
