Abstract
Background and Aim: Considering its role in the formation of a normal or abnormal personality, moral development is considered one of the most important axes of human development. The present research was conducted with the aim of determining the role of heredity and environment in the formation of moral development.
Methods: In this Causal-comparative research, the levels of moral development of four to six-year-old children in four groups of non-twins, identical and non-identical twins raised in a family environment were compared with orphaned children raised in an orphanage. Eligible children to participate in the research were selected based on convenience sampling method. The final sample size was 96 people with 24 people in each of the compared groups. The moral development levels of these children were measured with the help of Isenberg's moral development task.
Ethical Considerations: In compiling this research, ethical aspects including preserving the originality of the texts, honesty and fidelity and satisfaction and awareness have been respected.
Results: A series of analysis of variance and post hock test showed that children in orphanages had lower moral development compared to children raised in families with both twins and non-twins. No significant difference was observed between non-twin children and identical and non-identical twins.
Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the environment has a more effective role in fostering moral growth. The lower level of performance of orphanage children in moral development shows the importance of paying attention to the cultivation of this characteristic in this group of children.
