The “Journal of Otorhinolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery” is committed to the long-term preservation of its published scholarly content and ensuring its perpetual accessibility and integrity. To this end, the journal implements the following archiving policies:
1. Archiving in the OJS System (In-House Archiving)
All published content (including articles, special issues, corrections, and supplements) is fully archived on the journal's dedicated server running the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software, developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). This system adheres to international data storage standards, and regular, automated backups are performed to safeguard all data.
2. PKP Preservation Network (PN)
Our journal benefits from the PKP Preservation Network (PN), which uses the open-source OJS software to automatically preserve and provide ongoing access to our content. The PN creates a distributed preservation system that regularly harvests and archives our content, ensuring its survival beyond the lifespan of the journal's primary hosting platform.
3. LOCKSS* & CLOCKSS**
To guarantee a permanent, safe archive, our journal participates in globally recognized digital preservation systems:
*LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): The LOCKSS system allows libraries to create permanent, secure archives of our journal content through a distributed, peer-to-peer preservation network. This ensures the long-term survival of the digital content.
**CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS): Our journal is also archived in the CLOCKSS digital archive, a trusted, not-for-profit service that provides a "dark archive" for content. CLOCKSS guarantees that the content will be made freely available to the world in the event of a "trigger event" (e.g., the journal ceasing publication), ensuring that scholarly content remains available for future generations.
Access to our content preserved via the LOCKSS and CLOCKSS systems is available through their respective platforms.
4. Archiving via Persistent Identifiers (DOI)
Every article published in this journal is assigned a unique and persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) through mEDRA. This DOI provides a permanent, resolvable link to the article's location online, ensuring reliable linking, citability, and access even if the journal's URL changes.
5. Indexing and Archiving in Repositories
The journal's content is systematically indexed and archived in major national and international scientific databases and repositories relevant to our field. This ensures broad discoverability and provides additional redundant archives.
6. Author Self-Archiving Policy
Authors are permitted and encouraged to archive the published version (the Publisher's final PDF) of their work in the following ways:
In all cases, the work must be accompanied by a full citation and a link to the final version of the article on the journal's official website using the provided DOI.
7. Data Protection and Backup Strategy
The servers hosting this journal's OJS instance perform daily automated backups of all system data and content. These backups are stored in secure, geographically separate locations to protect against data loss from unforeseen events or disasters.
8. Contingency and Perpetual Access Commitment
The “Journal of Otorhinolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery” is committed to ensuring continuous access to its archive. In the unlikely event that the journal ceases publication, every effort will be made to ensure the digital archive is transferred to a trusted custodian (such as CLOCKSS or the PKP PN) to maintain perpetual access for the scholarly community.
