Abstract

Introduction:Common cold is a common disease among children. For symptomatic treatment of this disease, children should use drugs that have the least side effects. Since diphenhydramine is widely used in symptomatic treatment of these children, we have tried to examine the effect of this drug on the blood pressure of children with common colds .

Materials and Methods:This is a clinical trial that was performed on 110 children aged 2 to 18 years old who referred to Amir Kabir Hospital in Arak. Before and 24 to 72 hours after diphenhydramine administration at a dose of 1-5mg.kg , in these children, the blood pressure of children was measured with Citizen Digital Device (CH-456) and compared to existing standards. Data were analyzed by SPSS-23 software .

Results: The mean age of these children was 7.13 years and the standard deviation was 2.57. In this study, 50.9% were male children and 49.1% were girls. In the study of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of these children, it was observed that the children's blood pressure increased in some of them, but this increase was not statistically significant .

Conclusion:According to the results of the recent study, it is concluded that despite the increase in blood pressure in children suffering from common colds using diphenhydramine, its use in children with colds is not obstructed .
