Student Research in Translational Medicine journal

Student Research in Translational Medicine (SRTM) recognizes the value of preprint servers in accelerating the dissemination of scientific findings. This policy explicitly defines our stance on the prior deposition of manuscripts on preprint servers.

Definition of a Preprint

A preprint is a complete draft of a research manuscript that an author shares on a public server before it has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication in a journal.

Journal Stance on Preprints

SRTM welcomes submissions that have been previously posted on preprint servers. The posting of a manuscript on a preprint server is not considered prior publication and does not compromise consideration for publication in SRTM.

Author Obligations

  1. Disclose at Submission: Authors must inform the editorial office of the preprint, provide the DOI or direct URL, and confirm the manuscript has not been previously published in a journal.
  2. Cite upon Publication: If accepted, authors must update the preprint record with a citation to the final published article, including full journal reference, DOI, and a link to the Version of Record on the SRTM website. A statement such as "This manuscript has been published in Student Research in Translational Medicine [full citation]" is required.

Media Embargo

Publishing a preprint does not violate SRTM's media embargo policy. However, authors should be aware that presenting findings at conferences or discussing them with the media may accelerate public discourse prior to peer review.

This policy aligns with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding preprints.
