The Journal of Dental School (JDS) was established in 1967 through the dedicated efforts of Professor Aliakbar Bahraman, then Dean of the School, with the aim of disseminating the research achievements of Iranian dental scholars to the international community. Following a temporary suspension after the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the journal resumed publication in March 1984 and soon became a leading national journal in dentistry.
In 2012, JDS transitioned its publication language from Persian to English to enhance its international visibility and impact. Since 2013, the journal has been published exclusively online as an open-access, peer-reviewed publication. Although JDS was traditionally issued on a quarterly basis, it will adopt a continuous publication model beginning in 2026, allowing accepted manuscripts to be published online immediately upon completion of the peer-review and production processes.
Published by Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, JDS aims to advance dental science at both national and international levels. The journal publishes original research articles, case reports, case series, and systematic reviews across a broad range of topics, including clinical and basic dental research, oral medicine and pathology, dental materials, public health dentistry, oral microbiology, dental imaging, regenerative dentistry, orthodontics, implantology, and emerging technologies in dentistry. Through a rigorous double-blind peer-review process, JDS is committed to promoting high-quality research, fostering scholarly collaboration, and upholding the highest ethical standards in academic publishing.
