Abstract
With the continuous development of sports in China, the incidence of sports-related injuries is also increasing annually, with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries being particularly common. The ACL, one of the two primary intra-articular fibrous ligaments, provides both rotational and translational stability to the knee joint. When injured, patients experience a decline in their physical activity and overall quality of life, which can lead to a series of complications, particularly among women. The risk of ACL injury in women is approximately 3.5 times greater than that in men.
Numerous factors contribute to ACL injuries. Research indicates that the majority of patients opt for surgical intervention following an ACL injury. With advancements in arthroscopic techniques, surgical treatment has become increasingly favored, especially among younger and more active individuals. Surgical intervention offers several advantages, including rapid postoperative recovery, reduced trauma, and fewer complications. Currently, the predominant surgical approach is arthroscopic reconstruction of the ACL. Reconstruction materials include autografts, allografts, and synthetic ligaments. It is essential to understand the biochemical and biological differences among various grafts during the ligament healing process. For elderly patients or those with specific medical considerations, non-surgical treatment options may also be appropriate. This article reviews the pathogenic factors, surgical methods, graft options, and other relevant aspects for clinical reference.
