INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Cellular and Molecular Anesthesia should be prepared according to guidelines established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (see 'Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication' available at: http://www.icmje.org/) as well as the following instructions.

Manuscript submission is only electronically (following the online process), and accompanied by a cover letter indicating that the object, totally or partly, has not been previously published and is not currently under consideration for publication in another journal. All files submitted should be in an MS Word processed format, Microsoft Word 2010 or earlier. 

Ethical Considerations:

Submissions containing copies or self-plagiarism will be rejected. Authors are encouraged to carefully proofread their manuscripts before submission. To prevent plagiarism and copyright violation, the use of software such as iThenticate is recommended.

Microsoft Word is the preferred text file format. Submitted files must be editable; do not submit pdf files of your text.

Authors Responsibilities

1. All authors must be:

• scientifically senior in the field of research
• accountable for the accurateness of the article
• able to certify that the manuscript is their original work and has not been previously published elsewhere; even simultaneous submissions being under review in another journal are prohibited
• accountable to all the data provided in the paper; these data should be authentic
• and responsible about their data and report any potential or possible errors being discovered in the manuscript before submission, during assessment and, after acceptance or publishment of their paper to the journal editors

• although it is the responsibility of the corresponding author to complete the correspondence in the requested timeline, all authors must actively participate in the peer review process and participate actively and responsibly in formulating responses to the views raised by the peer reviewers.

• this journal does not charge authors for the submission or publication of manuscripts

2. All potential and factual conflicts of interest relating to the manuscript content, preparation, and financial support must be declared. The authors have to inform the Editors of any conflicts of interest.
3. Authors presenting work involving human experimentation must:

• comply with Good Clinical Practice guidelines (http://www.ich.org/fileadmin/Public_Web_Site/ICH_Products/Guidelines/Efficacy/E6/E6_R1_Guideline.pdf)  as outlined by the International Conference on Harmonization (http://www.ich.org)
• provide evidence of informed consent specific to the investigation where required
• affirm at the beginning of the Methods section that the study has been reviewed and approved by an Investigational Review Board (IRB)

4. Authors presenting work involving animal experimentation must affirm in the Methods section that the study has been approved by an Animal Care Committee (IACUC) (http://www.iacuc.org).
5. The investigators are encouraged to register their clinical trials in ClinicalTrials.gov run by the National Library of Medicine (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/) or other public submitting or publishing International Standard Randomized Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN) (http://www.controlled-trials.com/isrctn/) or Iranian Registry Clinical Trials (IRCT) (http://www.irct.ir). The service is available at no charge. Also, this journal does not charge authors for the submission or publication of manuscripts. To be considered for publication, randomized, controlled trials involving medical interventions should be fully registered in one of the public trial registries before the conscription of the first patient. Well-controlled researches, including studies with negative results, are confident, more than ever.
   Where appropriate, CONSORT (http://www.consort-statement.org) or if analytic research is being reported, STARD (http://www.consort-statement.org/Initiatives/newstard.htm), and diagrams must be included. Observational Studies should meet the STROBE guiding principles (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology; http://www.strobe-statement.org/). Figures illustrating the appropriate diagram are requisite to be presented.
6. The text should be clearly "plagiarism-free"; i.e., the authors should not reproduce verbatim the text of previously published articles or manuscripts submitted in other texts; even if a text by the same author has already been officially published.

7. In each manuscript, all the authors of the article must have active, significant, and specific participation in conducting research and then in writing and editing the manuscript; this process should be based on the standard patterns of text writing and following the standards of the journal.

Please note that except for special circumstances, JMCA will organize the whole electronic materials, two months after publication. If you require the return of any material submitted, please inform the Editorial Office or Production Editor as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

Types of Articles

Several types of articles are published in JCMA. The word counts listed are intended to be general guidelines, not fixed limitations.

1. Original Research: Typically original manuscripts should be 5,000 words or less;
2. Editorials: 3,000 words or less;
3. Review articles: 15,000 words or less;
4. Clinical case conference articles: 15,000 words or less;
5. Medical-legal, Practice Management, and History of cellular and molecular anesthesia articles: 10,000 words or less;
6. Case Reports, Technical Reports, Brief Clinical Reports: Typically 3,000 words or less;
7. Announcements, not to exceed 250 words;
8. Letters to the editor, not to exceed 500 words;

Manuscript Format

Manuscripts should be submitted in English to the Editor–in–Chief: Professor Ali Dabbagh / the editorial office and typed double-spaced. Allow adequate margins on all sides and number all pages consecutively. Manuscripts should consist of a

• title page
• text
• acknowledgments
• references
• tables
• legends
• figures

(All should be placed in that arrangement). Submissions must do under the blinded method (all authors’ names and institutional identifiers removed).

Title Page

The title page should be consisting of:

1. The complete name of the manuscript (should be brief and revealing); Avoid abbreviations and formulas where possible
2. The authors^, full first name, middle initial, and family name, and the highest academic scale(s)of each;
3. The academic unit and organization in which the authors are affiliated, with the city and county of the creators;
4. The complete information (name, address, phone number, and email address) of the author who will be the corresponding author;

Text

Standard metric units must be used to evaluate distance/length and weight. Only typical abbreviations could be used; in the earliest position, always spell out unusual abbreviations in text, followed in parentheses by the short form. Check with the latest editions of the Council of Biology Editors Style Manual or the AMA Manual of Style for current usage. All drugs and chemicals used must be specified by generic name(s), giving dosage(s), and method (s) of administration. The trade name should be only used in parentheses after the generic (standard) name.

Acknowledgments

All persons who have made some contribution to the publication, but convince only one or two of the three authorship criteria (mentioned before), should be mentioned in the Acknowledgment segment. All sources of support such as financial and material should also be revealed in the Acknowledgment section. The roles of each sponsor in data achievement or other responsibilities must be informed.

References

References should be numbered one after the other in the order in which they are used in the text, using Index Medicus abbreviations. Only references to books and articles or abstracts published in peer-reviewed journals should be cited. Unpublished data, personal communications, or manuscripts, should be cited only in the text without using of reference number.

The total number of references at the end of the article is highly advised to be less than 40 for the “review articles” and “original articles”, less than 15 references for “brief communications” and “hypothesis and ideas”, and less than 10 for “case reports” and “letters to the editor”.

For references that have more than 6 authors, the names of the first six authors should be mentioned and the remaining authors with the words "et al." be called

Both on the title page and at the end of the article, appearing after the “discussion”, a paragraph should be written stating any financial support of the authors, including formal support for the research project, or any potential conflict of interest.

For standard journal articles

6 or fewer authors:

Tables

Add tables is useful, but should not copy the wording (text). Tables must be appeared with numbers consecutively using Arabic numerals in their order of presentation in the text. Tables must have appropriate labels. Tables should be typed double-spaced, each in a separate manner. Descriptive comments can be mentioned below the tables.

Figures

Original artwork, radiographs, or electrocardiograms should not be sent. Informed consent should be presented for identifiable patient photographs, descriptions, and pedigrees. Photomicrographs must have internal scale indicators. Symbols, arrows, or letters used in photomicrographs should contrast with the background. Figures should always be numbered in text in successive order with Arabic numerals. This journal does not charge authors for submitting or publishing manuscripts, including their figures.

Color figures will be published free of charge if judged relevant and of good quality.

Submitting Electronic Art to JCMA

Due to the wide range of available graphics programs in use, it is impossible to incorporate all of these programs. If a digital art file is submitted with the revised version of an accepted manuscript, there is no assurance to be acceptable.

Some principal criteria for acceptable files:

Three preferred formats for digital artwork submission are as follows: Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), Portable Document Format (PDF), and Tagged Image Format (TIFF). EPS files are preferred. Otherwise, articles may be saved as PDF files at 600 dots per inch (dpi) or superior in their original size/resolution. Photographic images should be saved as TIFF files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in their original size. For figures containing photographs and labeling, EPS files, or PDF files with a resolution of at least 600 dpi are suitable. License Agreement

After primary acceptance of an article, the corresponding author will obtain an email prompting the authors to complete the COVER LETTER and COPY-RIGHT sheets.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

2. The mobile phone number of the corresponding author is also included in the full correspondence details
3. A blinded version of the manuscript is included (no author detail): The main body of the paper (eg. the references, figures, tables, and any acknowledgments) should not include any identifying information, such as the author's names or affiliations.

Authors who publish in this journal agree to the following terms:

1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
2. Authors can enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgment of its initial publication in this journal.
3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) before and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
