خلفية البحث وأهدافه: الزيتون (Olea europaea)، وهو من الأنواع في عائلة Oleaceae، هي واحدة من الفواكه التي تنمو في منطقة البحر الأبيض المتوسط وآسيا وأجزاء من أفريقيا. الإنتاج السنوي من هذه الفاكهة حوالي 4/17 مليون طن في العالم. من خلال تطوير العلوم في مختلف المجالات في السنوات الأخيرة، تم اكتشاف خصائص طبية وغذائية جديدة من الزيتون. وقد تبين أن العديد من خصائص ثبت من هذه الفاكهة في العلم الحديث سبق ذكرها في القرآن، الروايات والأحاديث الرسول الاکرم (ص) و الأئمة (ع). الزيتون عموما فعال في علاج قرحة المعدة و أمراض الجهاز الهضمي الأخرى، ارتفاع ضغط الدم، الربو، أمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية، داء السكري، كسور وهشاشة العظام، الأمراض الجلدية، تحفيز التبول، الوقاية من تساقط الشعر والحد من الالتهاب والحمى.
منهجية البحث: في هذه الدراسة، وقد تم التحقيق خصائص طبية الزيتون في القرآن الكريم، الأحاديث، الطب التقليدي والبحوث العلمية الأخيرة (2016-2000). تم مراعاة جمیع الموارد الاخلاقیة في هذا البحث واضافة الى هذا فإن مؤلفي المقالة لم يبلغوا عن تضارب المصالح.
المكشوفات: على الرغم من أن توصيات القرآن والنبي والأئمة والعلوم التقليدية لاستهلاك زيت الزيتون، نتائج الدراسات الحديثة تشير أيضا إلى أن هذه الفاكهة فعال في الوقاية من أمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية، ومرض الزهايمر، سرطان القولون، الجلد، البروستاتا، الثدي، الرحم والمبيض، مرض السكري، الأمراض الالتهابية والمناعة الذاتية مثل التهاب المفاصل الروماتويدي وهشاشة العظام، الأمراض العصبية مثل متلازمة داون. كما أبلغت خصائص مضادة للالتهابات ومضادات الميكروبات ومضادات الأكسدة عن الزيتون.
النتیجة: إن نتائج هذا البحث يمكن أن يكون خطوة فعالة لتأكيد الجوانب العلمية للقرآن و روايات الرسول الاکرم (ص) و الأئمة (ع)، وخاصة في حالة الفواكه مثل الزيتون.
