Challenges in Diagnosis of Gluten Related Disorders

Dear Colleagues

Gastroenterology and Hepatology From Bed to Bench (ISSN 2008-2258) is inviting you to participate in debate in its Special Issue entitled " Challenges in Diagnosis of Gluten Related Disorders  " (http://www.ghfbb.ir).

Recent Advances in diagnosis and management of  gluten related disorders (GRD) highlighted a number diagnostic challenges in both coeliac disease and Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity.

In this inspirational issue we would like to discuss the following topics

The role of serology in CD diagnosis. Can we avoid endoscopy and if yes which adults patients would be the potential candidate for avoiding initial biopsy? Does every coeliac patient need a follow up biopsy? If not how far they can be avoided in adults?

Seronegative coeliac disease; are they coeliac or non-coeliac gluten sensitive? What is the differences between HLA positive gluten sensitive seronetative Marsh I-II and Marsh III? Why one is called coeliac Disease and the other called non-coeliac gluten sensitive?

The value of histology in diagnosis of coliac disease. How its sensitivity and specificity compare to serology?

The strength and  weaknesses of Salerno criteria for diagnosis of NCGS in routine practice?

Terminology like Villous atrophy, is this a real event? Bearing in mind atrophic organs do not regenerate while intestinal villi may normalise on gluten free diet.

Your contribution of either evidence-based original research or a review of the scientific literature or personal views on above topics undoubtedly will brig more insight into what challenges the clinicians looking after GRDs patients.

The submission deadline is 29 March 2018 and the issue will be released in July 2018.Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

GHFBB is open access and papers are published free of charge.

For further details on the submission process, please see the instructions for authors at the journal website (
